Trekking equipments can be hired from the J&K Tourism shops at Jammu and Kud. These stores are well stocked with imported and local trekking gears available at fixed prices. These include 4-man tents (Indian), 2-man tents (imported), Carry mats (Indian and Imported), Sleeping bags (Imported), Jackets (Indian and Imported), Windcheaters (Indian), Rucksacks, and Boots (Indian and imported). All equipments are issued against a cash receipt or against a Guarantee letter signed and sealed by the Deputy Director of Tourism or the Deputy Secretary of State / Central Government of India. Also, foreign tourists must present their Passports as a security deposit.

Short-term Skiing courses in Patnitop is conducted during the months of January and February, for those interested in skiing activity. For tourist with less inclination towards adventure, they can enjoy the scenic landscapes of Patnitop by opting for a Pony ride covering short known trails, as well as enjoy a camp fire, and long nature walks leaving you with options to explore this beautiful region at your own pace. A much-proclaimed Ropeway project is underway to be constructed at Patnitop, which will definitely add to the Tourism aspects of J&K.

Do note that the best time to visit Patnitop is from May to June, from September to October, and from December to March.
